An experience Young Men Won’t forget!

Weekend Outline:

This weekend will allow Young Men the opportunity to discover and learn the value of their lives. Through their experience Young Men gain values that lead to a successful transition into adulthood.

Starting on Friday night the weekend kicks off with an overview as to what the rest of the weekend has in store for them. We have an opening ceremony that sets the tone for the following day.

Saturday is the testing day. All of the young men are divided into teams and are put through a course of challenges that cannot be done individually. The young men strive to successfully complete the course while simultaneously building trust with each other. This proves to be much more difficult than the young men expect.

Peer support is a major part of the day. All the young men are guided to the responsibility of assuring the success of the other young men of the weekend. All the young men bring their personal assets to the weekend and with the openness and support from each others all the young men realize their unique value to their team.

Community responsibility is a cornerstone during the weekend. Every site of the YMIW is left better than when the young men arrive. The young men lead and manage a project at every site that is a noticeable improvement to the facilities we use. By the end of the weekend all the teams have passed through this community service project and as an entire unit the young men what an asset to the community they are, have been and which esteems them in their values.

By the end of Saturday the young men have realized and actualized their capabilities as adult community members and it is time to let go of their boyhood perspectives and attitudes that have been their sense of identity this far in their lives. A personal and intimate ceremony initiates the young men, welcoming them into manhood. This comes with the understanding that their commitment is to the values, virtues and principles that each of us chooses to conduct our lives by. Truly a difficult path to living with integrity and having a high regard for themselves and others. A challenge, we have found our "new men" have actually been longing for.
